Webinar: Food is medicine – closing the gap on malnutrition with a new ISO standard for hospitals

It has been estimated that up to 50% of in-patients around the world are affected by malnutrition, a serious condition that occurs when a person’s diet does not contain enough nutrients to meet the demands of their body. This can affect growth, physical health, mental well-being, behaviour and many of the functions of the body, including its ability to heal or repair. For patients, it increases the risk of complications and mortality, and reduces their quality of life.

This is not only bad for patients. Healthcare systems incur unnecessary costs as patients stay longer in hospital, are more frequently readmitted and have a reduced healthy life span. Despite this, and even though malnutrition can be improved with appropriate nutrition interventions, malnutrition is often not detected, diagnosed or treated in hospitals.
